Potable Water Safe

Potable Water Safe

A container certified safe for storing drinking water, meeting FDA food contact standards.

Potable water safe indicates a container is approved for storing drinking water without leaching harmful chemicals. Food-grade HDPE pails that meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 standards are potable water safe. For emergency water storage, FEMA recommends storing 1 gallon per person per day for a minimum 3-day supply. A single food-grade 5-gallon bucket can provide one person with 5 days of drinking water. Water stored in HDPE containers should be treated with 1/8 teaspoon of unscented liquid chlorine bleach per gallon and rotated every 6-12 months.
