A container property that safely dissipates static electricity, required for storing flammable liquids and powders.
Static dissipative containers are engineered to safely dissipate static electrical charges, preventing dangerous sparks that could ignite flammable materials. Standard HDPE is an electrical insulator and can build up static charges during filling or handling. Static dissipative HDPE pails incorporate conductive additives or carbon black to achieve surface resistivity of 10⁶ to 10⁹ ohms, allowing controlled charge dissipation. Required for packaging flammable solvents, powders, and dust-explosive materials. ATEX and NFPA standards specify static dissipative requirements for containers used in hazardous environments.
