Melt Flow Index (MFI)

Melt Flow Index (MFI)

A measure of HDPE resin flowability during molding, affecting container wall uniformity and strength.

Melt Flow Index (MFI) measures the rate at which molten plastic flows through a standardized die under specified temperature and pressure conditions, expressed in grams per 10 minutes. For HDPE pail manufacturing, MFI determines how easily the resin fills the mold. Lower MFI resins (higher molecular weight) produce stronger, more chemical-resistant containers but require higher processing temperatures. Typical MFI for injection-molded pails is 4-12 g/10 min.
