UV Stabilizer

UV Stabilizer

An additive mixed into plastic resin to protect containers from degradation caused by sunlight exposure.

UV stabilizers are chemical additives incorporated into plastic resin during manufacturing to protect containers from ultraviolet radiation degradation. Without UV stabilizers, prolonged sun exposure causes HDPE to become brittle, discolor, and lose structural strength. Common UV stabilizers include HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) and carbon black (which gives black pails their color and UV resistance). UV-stabilized containers are essential for outdoor storage applications.
